Blog Post Week 10

 1. This week in lab, we focused on technology and evolution. We started by brainstorming the types of technologies that we prefer as students. My first thought on this was laptops and Google. I was able to learn about new technologies that can be used based on answers from peers. I also learned about the positives and negatives of simulations online. We talked about how simulations can be beneficial for students because it allows them to learn at a speed that works for them in a hands-on way. They are able to manipulate the simulation as they would like. A negative could be that it is not an accurate representation. After this, we looked at the NGSS and examined more Science and Engineering Practices, Disciplinary Core Ideas, and Cross Cutting Concepts. Our activity today was creating our own short story based on evolution for third graders. We decided to make a story about the evolution of dogs and I was able to learn more about this along the way. I also learned what DALLE-2 is and how to use this.

Our story- https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1CUNIzkrElkZZUFwO1FBe-65vgDlaBMK74D2V7JY0b-A/edit#slide=id.g70ff5ca009_7_153

4. I can apply what I have learned to my teaching in the future. I am wanting to use some of the technology that we discussed in class such as DALLE-2. I think this would be beneficial since you can create almost any picture you can think of. I would also like to use more simulations after discussing the positives of these. Along with this, I can use what I have learned about evolution when teaching about this in the future. I could even use the story I created to share with students how wolves evolve into dogs along with other ideas from peers.

5. Our group only found theories about the evolution of dogs, is there factual evidence that supports these theories?

At what grade could I have students create their own book about evolution or another concept?

Is DALL-E 2 more beneficial to use that google pictures?

  1. Hi Abby! I loved your story today in class! I like that it was descriptive about how the dogs features have changed over time. DALL-E2 did not work with my group, but I wish it did because your book's pictures were so fun and engaging!
